Constitutional Reform Proposals

Dear all,

Please find attached a PDF (proposals & role descriptions) outlining the changes being made to the Constitution. While it may look like a lot, the vast majority of these are tweaks or clarifications. I have tried to offer a quick reasoning and context behind each one, but feel free to ask further questions about these proposals. The second attached document are the new proposals for role descriptions of JCR officials. Again, any questions or concerns please let me know. Apologies for any typos in advance.
Finally, please fill in the following one question survey:
which asks about how many person(s) should be able to fill various roles. This will closeWednesday 6pm, so please make your voice heard. The survey is to supplement previous consultation we have undertaken.
There should be a referendum on the new Constitution in 8th week and a debate on Sunday 8th week alongside the normal JCR meeting, so make a note in your diaries!
Best wishes,
Chair of the Constitutional Reform Committee
JCR Secretary

Vac Website Updates (Part 1)

Dear all,

The Sports sub-page has been made into a main page with many subpages off it. Thanks to our Sports Reps (Jenny Smith and Valery Charachon) as well as many sports teams for providing us with pictures. More are to come, especially for rowers whose page has yet to have materials provided.

The welfare pages are now nearly all up to date, with the Liberation and International page currently being created. The whole welfare page system and provisions has been updated. Thanks to Louise Chegwidden and Rohan Hazell (Welfare Officers), Katy Haigh (Women’s Officer) for liaising with our liberation reps to provide material for this.

The Democracy page has been updated by me, along with an updated Standing Policy last done in January 2014 and an updated Constitution from October 2014. The annual Constitutional Amendment summary items have been created for 2014 and 2015. A new 2016 section has been created in the meeting minutes/agendas page in anticipation of the coming term. Under this, the committee page is being updated with pictures and text being provided for by the officers. The Reps page is now up to date and includes our Sports Reps.

The DVD Collection and Room Database has been fixed by Marius Gavrilescu (Computer Rep) and I would like to thank him for removing lots of malware and other suspicious coding items from this website, as well as assisting in adding menus, changing website appearances. His help has been invaluable.

The remaining pages are soon to be updated when relevant committee members reply and provide more information or edit suggestions.

Hopefully the website will be fully updated by the start of Hilary 2016 and if you have suggestions for improvement or corrections to flag then please send a message to jcr-secretary@sjc xenical over the to report them.

With season’s greetings,

Alastair Graham

(JCR Secretary)

[JCR] 7th Week News

Hello Johnians,
Apologies for the delayed weekly news, it was due to unresolved technical issues using groupspaces.
Big shout out to all those who attended the JCR meeting. Minutes will be sent out in Mid-Week News. I am told that there are pictures and videos up on Facebook. This week I have some cracking videos for you. But before I let you know what they are, I hope you are in good health and having a good term.
The DVD Room, TV Room, JCR and Graves Room have been routinely left in an untidy state this term. On many occasions, Johnians have tidied up for those who made the mess. If this persists, the use of the rooms will be withdrawn which makes things difficult for everyone. Continue reading

[JCR] 6th Week News

Happy 6th week! I hope you are well and all is going well too.
What a cracking bop and in true Johnian Style, there were so many versions of Bond(age), villains and bond girls. However, we had a mishap; there was some damage to the roof near the toilet area.
With regard to the spillages and damages, sometimes accidents happen, however it is vital, not least to ensure the safety of all, that you report any damages, when they happen, to the organiser of the event. Continue reading
