St John’s is lucky enough to have a JCR Art Store, a rich resource of over 130 paintings that have been collected by the student art committee over a period of more than 90 years. While many pieces are around college; in the offices or library, the real purpose of the store is to enhance our student experience by adorning our bedroom walls! As it stands, the stores are opened up once a term so that members of the JCR can choose a piece of original art to hang in their room. In the future, students will have their painting for the entire year. As well as including oil paintings, prints, drawings and photographs, the collection owns a sketch of a nude by Henry Moore, a lithograph by Marc Chagall and a watercolour by John Piper, who once painted Exeter College Chapel.
