There is a wealth of Sports options to choose from when coming to Oxford. Whether you are a seasoned athlete looking to earn a ‘Blue’ or wanting a more relaxed leisure activity, University and College sports societies and facilities cater for all abilities and commitment levels. College sport is a great way to stay fit and healthy, socialise (when asked, always say yes to a crewdate!) but also College sport keeps up the all-important inter-college rivalry. Last year St John’s and St Anne’s joint ‘Saints’ Rugby team beat the Corpus/Somerville team 39-19 to win the Cuppers* Plate. St John’s netball team came top of their division after a convincing win against rivals Wadham and the mixed tennis team made it through to the Cuppers semi-finals, only being beaten 5-4 matches by New College.
Sport is large part of College life at St John’s and all College sports are represented at the College’s annual ‘Sports Dinner’ (free wine included!) The social side of sport is also growing, crewdates, post cuppers matches drinks and a fab Christmas Party at the Fortress.
St John’s is home to numerous sports teams so have a look at them all here. Also, check out some of our sports facilities which are open to anyone at St John’s even if they aren’t a member of a sports team.
