Choir

St John's has a choir that performs regularly during the week and at other special occasions.

Recruiting Now! If you’re looking to join a top-notch choir in Oxford, come along to audition for St John’s – we meet three times a week to rehearse and sing evensong services, as well as mid-term communions and gaudy services.

With us you’d have:

  • Pay of around £450 per year and free John’s formal every Sunday
  • A varied diet of music, including a good amount of early and contemporary repertoire
  • A choir tour to Vienna (17th-20th April 2020)
  • Leadership from a professional music director
  • A whale of a time with a sociable group made up of both undergraduates and postgraduates

If you’re interested then email our director at choir.director[at]sjc.ox.ac.uk: our auditions will be taking place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October. All voice types sought, sopranos in particular.

St John’s Chapel Choir is one of the finest mixed-voice choirs in Oxford, consisting of an auditioned group of both undergraduates and graduates, from St John’s and elsewhere. During term time, the choir meets three times a week to sing two evensongs, with the added bonus of a welcoming and friendly time for tea and cake before rehearsals. The Choir covers a wide range of repertoire, with a focus on both early and contemporary composers. Choir members are paid a small amount per service, receive free formal dinner on Sundays, and are going on tour in summer of 2020 to St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.

If you are interested in auditioning, please contact the choir director, David Bannister, at choir.director[at]sjc.ox.ac.uk.
